HERSHAM IN BLOOM October 23rd 2009

At a fun evening held at Squires garden centre on Friday 23rd October 2009 the winners of this years gardens competition were presented with their prizes. Sarah Squire, of Squires Garden Centres presented the prizes and Derek Williamson gave a short talk on how businesses in Hersham had benefited from the In Bloom campaign. A full list of all prizewinners will appear here very soon
HERSHAM IN BLOOM September 2009 Well we did it again! Hersham in Bloom achieved a Silver Award for the third year running in the competition. Members of the working group were extremely busy in the run-up to the judging and had to put in extra work due to two prize plants stolen from the main flower bed of Hersham's entry . A green-fingered thief made off with a pair of choisyas, also known as Mexican orange blossom, from the bed in Molesey Road on May 16 and now villagers have clubbed together to replace the plants that are due to play a big part in the contest. Councillor for Hersham North ward, and gardener, Mary Sheldon, said: "It's quite extraordinary. We had been preparing for the competition, which takes place in July, and two of our main plants were stolen." full story
The continued success of Hersham in Bloom depends so much on the support of our very loyal and hard-working group of volunteers. We would welcome more help from anyone who feels able to assist in any way : •occasional (or regular !) help with our working parties in the village •distribute leaflets •keep the area in front of your house or business free of litter and weeds •take photos •put extra flowers or plants in your front garden •enter one of our competitions •come to committee meetings to share your ideas •offer of plants/bulbs

HERSHAM IN BLOOM 2008
Well we did it ! Hersham in Bloom achieved a Silver award for a second year.
Members of the working group attended the South and South East in Bloom Awards in Crawley in September and were delighted that the judges were sufficiently impressed with the hard work that had been done in Hersham to maintain the high standard required to achieve a Silver award - for a second year ! In fact we were only a few marks from achieving the higher level of a silver gilt award, which is definitely our goal for next year, if not gold ! The judges were as complimentary about the floral displays as the many residents who have commented during the summer months on how attractive the centre of the village has looked. Hersham in Bloom is also grateful to the many local shops, businesses and local residents who sponsored the floral tubs and planters.
An evening of celebration was held on Wednesday 15 October 2008 at Squires Garden Centre
The In Bloom working group is currently clearing most of the barrels in the village and they will be refurbished before being stored away during the winter. You will notice some remaining in strategic places - we hope you enjoy the continuation of our Autumn/Winter display. In the Spring we plan to bring the barrels back with a lively floral display
